Yagradagze Berg

Gesigeya area, which measures 4900 meters in height, is the place of origin for the Huanghe River. Lying in the south branch of East Kunlun Shan Range, it is situated in the snowy mountain-ous area of Yagradagze Shan at the west end of Bayan Har Shan. Thawing high-peaks, ice and snow gave birth to thousands of brooks which converged into Kar Qu, Yoigilangleb Qu, Ma Qu and then poured into Xinxiu Hai. It was here that starry lakes and swamps of various sizes took in more rivulets and ran through Gyaring Hu and Ngoring Hu (lake). The surging Huanghe River thus came into being.

With dozens of snowy peaks of around 500 meters above sea level, Yagradagze mountainous region serves as the water shed of three large rivers while highly developed modern glaciers present inexhaustible water resources for the big rivers. The three rivers are the Huanghe River, the Tongtianhe River System and the Golmu River. A net-work of rivulets on the east side of the snowy mountains combines to product the Huanghe River; on the west side, the Tongtanhe River System, which is the upper reach of the Changjiang River, originates from the west side while in the north is the water system where the island river, Golmu River, has its origin. Rising 5214 meters above sea level, Yagradagze Shan, the main peak, is situated at 95.8 0 E and 35.1 0 N in Madoi County of Yushu Prefecture of Qinghai Provin-ce. In Tibetan Language, “Yagradagze”, which refers to the snowy peak, resembles a tiger’s head with an ox’s horn rising and towering into sky.
